Personal Information Protection Act
In order to ensure compliance under the Personal
Information Protection Act (PIPA), Specialty Installations
Ltd. has implemented an in-house procedure for backing up
client computers, in order to ensure the confidentiality of
all information as it relates to our clients and our
compliance under PIPA.
Effective immediately, when any computer arrives in
the shop for trouble-shooting, prior to commencing any work
on the computer, all data on its hard drive may be backed up
to ensure no data loss in the event of any hardware or
software problems that could arise rapidly and/or without
warning while the client.s computer is in our care.
Archiving this data can be accomplished through several
means: cloning hard drive to hard drive; creation of an
image of the data to be stored on the server; or, moving
selected files to a CD ROM. After safely securing the
client's data, troubleshooting can commence without any risk
to our client data. After work on the client computer has
been completed and issues resolved, client data may then be
safely returned to the clients computer.
It is essential that any and all copies of saved
data, or any data archived from a client computer be
destroyed in order to ensure Specialty Installations Ltd.
safeguards the privacy of our clients, and to ensure that
Specialty Installations Ltd. complies with its
responsibilities under PIPA.
